Marriage traditions in the Islam

In Moslem’s life a great meaning has family ceremonies, such as wedding, a birth of a child, especially a birth of a son.

Marriage is very important event in a Moslem’s life. Marriage in Islam has number distinguishing features. First, it is a permissibility of polygamy though nowadays in many countries polygamy is cancelled or possible only for rich men and it makes polygamy almost impossible. Second distinguishing feature is a permissibility and desirability of early marriages. And third feature is absence of administrative formalities. For Islam’s marriage you need several witnesses and verbal agreement of bride’s relatives. To get divorce it is necessary to husband three times says to his wife about his intention to divorce. This intention must be said with witnesses.

Besides lawful wives a Moslem can have several concubines. A concubine differs from a wife with absence of wedding ceremony, verbal agreement of relatives and rights to husband’s property and children in case of divorce.

However now days many of these rules are canceled. Polygamy meets very rare, and before entering into a marriage husband and wife write a marriage contract in which material questions are defined, and also in this contract can be noted that a husband can’t take second wife.
